tangoThe day before leaving to go to India for a friends wedding, I spotted a young chap walking along the road carrying a juvenile Black Kite. The Bird was lying on the glove gasping for air, it was tied by one leg with a piece of rope to his glove and had cat bells on, attached with wire.

Immediately I was asked if I wanted to buy it for $100. Straight away I informed him that the trade of birds of prey was illegal and that he could face up to 2 years in prison. He panicked and released the bird, luckily I caught it before it could fly away with all of it's equipment still attached.

I took the bird back to Maya Devi where we gave it some food and water. It was very tame and looked like it had been in captivity for a long time. We've since found out that he'd had the bird for almost 2 months, basically since it was a chick and his sole intention was to sell it to us for a huge profit.

We now have the bird in our care, he is completely imprinted which means it is highly unlikely that we will be able to release him. For now we have named him Tango, we plan to train him, possibly with the gliders so at least he can have some freedom and a happy and health life in captivity.

We'll keep you posted on his progress.
